• Gandia promotes itself in Manchester as a 'not too British' resort in Spain
By Samantha Kett
GANDIA is promoting itself in Manchester this week as a holiday destination for those who think 'Spain is too British'.
"I like everything about Spain except the bullfights and the Brits," the tourist board says lots of UK holidaymakers have told them. So the town is hoping to sell itself as the perfect Spanish tourist destination for those who are bored of Benidorm, fed up with Fuengirola and tired of Torremolinos.
"Gandia gives an image of a modern town, Spanish and European, that has not been contaminated by mass tourism," the promoters said at their trade fair stand in the north of England. "By 'not contaminated', we mean there are very few British people who come on holiday to La Safor, and that's precisely what British people coming here on holiday want. They want to see something different - they don't want to be surrounded by their own kind."
