Easter in Oliva, Valencia, Spain is lovely. Oliva house, in the heart of the Old Town, boasts the perfect location to enjoy a week of beautiful and moving traditional events, celebrated here for hundreds of years.
From Palm Sunday onwards in all the bakeries, you can order and buy monas de Pascua, traditional Valencian Easter cakes with chocolate or coloured hard-boiled eggs in the centre.
 
Good Friday sees the most popular religious demonstrations take place. Before sunrise, thousands of people congregate on Santa Ana mountain to take part in the Vía Crucis, or ‘way of the cross’. This is the oldest and most widespread event known of all those that take place over Easter.

History: Palm Sunday, the final Sunday before Easter Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week and commemorates Christ's triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in His path, before His arrest and Crucifixion on Good Friday.

17:00 San Roque liturgical celebration of the Jesus Christ's death.
18:30 Santa Maria parish, ceremony of Jesus Christ's releasing from the cross, a syphonic poem.
20:00 General procession of Jesus Christ's burial, starting from Santa Maris Church and following the habitual itinery.

EASTER SUNDAY
